Powell Street Community Center Mural Ribbon Cutting
The City of Monroe is delighted to announce the completion of a new basketball court mural at Powell Street Community Center, an artistic collaboration with Black Creatives Circle.
The funding for this remarkable project was made possible through a generous grant from the Percent for Art program’s initiative, Making It Public, facilitated by the Louisiana Office of Cultural Development, Division of Arts. The grant, totaling $10,000, was allocated to support public art initiatives. $5,000 was dedicated to the Powell Street Community Center mural, and an additional $5,000 will contribute to a mural at Charles Johnson Park, with its ribbon-cutting ceremony anticipated for early 2024.
The vibrant new art installation will be unveiled during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at 11:30 AM, at the basketball court of Powell Community Center located at 1401 Powell Avenue.
