What's up this weekend?

Check out what’s happening in MWM this weekend!

September 18-24, 2022 is National Child Passenger Safety Week. Motor vehicle collisions are the leading cause of death in children ages 1-14. In Louisiana, it is estimated that more than 96% of child passenger seats are installed incorrectly.  In 2019, the Louisiana Child Passenger Safety law was changed with different expectations for car-seats, booster seats, and adolescent motor vehicle passengers. The National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program certifies people as child passenger safety technicians and instructors. These technicians are trained to check and educate on appropriate child passenger safety. Many technicians are trained healthcare or safety professionals, while some are parents or volunteers.
Ochsner LSU Health Monroe Medical Center’s Level III Trauma Program has seized the opportunity to promote car seat safety in the community, collaboratively with our local First Responders. The program was also  instrumental in ensuring the Medical Center became a Certified Car Seat Fitting Station. As a fitting station, Monroe Medical Center now has three (3) Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians available for scheduled car seat fittings during business hours, 8A-4:30P, Monday-Friday. Additionally, a monthly car seat check event is held the last Wednesday of every month from 9AM – 12PM.
Please feel free to reach out to, Jamin Rankin, RN, TCRN, CFRN, CEN, Trauma Program Manager at (318) 330-7754 or to schedule a car seat check.
Louisiana State Police Troop F and Monroe Fire Department are also certified car seat fitting stations.
