It’s another beautiful day in Monroe, Louisiana Sept 12, 2022
What's up this weekend?
Check out what’s happening in MWM this weekend!
It is another BEAUTIFUL Day in Monroe, Louisiana. Last Week we had two very special events. The first was at First Methodist Church on Loop Road. We had the honor to breaking ground for the Wanda Kelley Bayou Worship Sanctuary on Bayou DeSiard. When built this beautiful amphitheater will be available to the general public as well as church membership. Then on Friday, we joined Monroe City School officials and Monroe city as we did a ribbon cutting at the new Martin Luther King Junior High. What a beautiful facility for these students to learn in. I promise this building will be a great learning environment and captures the spirit of Dr. King.
Our Golf Tournament celebration will be this Friday at Frenchman’s Bend. What a great way to have fun and celebrate our members. Also, this week we are partnering with our good friend and Board Member Bill Willson (CenturyNext Bank) to bring Roy Moye III to perform a musical STEM program to all the 3rd and 4th graders in Monroe City Schools. I met Roy in Wichita. He is a professional engineer and gospel singer. Roy has combined his love for music with his love for STEM learning into an hour and half musical show that gets children excited about STEM. On September 21st the Chamber partners with other organizations in town to bring you the largest Career Fair this area has seen in a while. We already have 60 businesses committed to booths. Our goal is to get people to work. Adam Alexander, our shared workforce position, has done a great job organizing this. On September 27th Dr. Coker with Ouachita Parish schools will meet with our GAC committee. The following week we head to Baton Rouge to visit Walker High School. October 27th, we have our big Cyber Security Summit. Cyber Security is huge right now and we urge you as a chamber member to come and learn (free of charge). It has information for both small and large businesses. We hope to have dates for Congresswoman Letlow’s visit and the Governor’s visit soon.
Tomorrow our Young Professionals are meeting at Flying Tiger. Dr. John Sutherlin is our guest speaker and I promise a great presentation and lunch. Our friends at Louisiana Delta, ULM, the City of Monroe and the Monroe City Schools will be placing banners at each of the Monroe City Schools.
Don’t forget Vlogging – we already are working with 3 or 4 businesses – the perfect time before the holidays.
We just finished up and will be premiering video board testimonials. We also working on new board nominations.
I am out making Total Resource calls. If you want more information on how you can help sponsor events or different groups please give me a call.
Finally, congratulation to our ULM Warhawks on a HUGE 35-7 win last Saturday at home. I urge each of you reading this note to come out and support the Warhawks. A beautiful setting and a fun time.
Please reach out if we can ever help up. Because of you, we are able to come in each day and work toward fulfilling our mission of creating an environment where our local businesses THRIVE!
