It’s another beautiful day in Monroe, Louisiana November 7,, 2022
What's up this weekend?
Check out what’s happening in MWM this weekend!
You are AWESOME!
Last week was a GREAT week for our city and region. VC (Virendra Chhikara), Joe Holyfield and our past Chamber President, Sue Nicholson led a great contingency of local dignitaries and elected officials including Governor John Bel Edwards, Congresswoman Julia Letlow, Mayor Friday Ellis and City Council Chair Kema Dawson, Police Juror Larry Bratton as they broke ground on the new Bio-Medical Research and Innovation Park. As Governor Edwards said this is a transformative point for our community. Special thanks to Senators Jay Morris, Stewart Cathey, Katrina Jackson, Glen Womack and Representatives Michael Echols, Pat Moore, Adrian Fisher, Neil Riser, Francis Thompson and Foy Gadberry for pushing this across the finish line. The Governor then joined the Chamber membership (over 520 strong) for a great luncheon update. The Governor delivered a positive and uplifting message about all of the GREAT things going on in our community and state. It was special to hear the Governor brag on Monroe - a special shout out to Johnny’s Pizza for serving 550 individual pizzas and King Springs Water for donating the water. The Chamber is proud to bring the Governor here, especially Governor Edwards as he has helped our region so much. We wrapped the day at the historic Cooley House celebrating a restoration grant for this historic home - the only one in the state of Louisiana. Wednesday, we wrapped up our largest Leadership Class - What an amazing group of Young Leaders. I was blessed to lead the last session - one word for this group - WOW - we are taking applications for next year now. Thursday the City (thanks to Mayor Ellis and his vision) hosted the Southern Rail Commission as they discussed passenger rail from Atlanta to Dallas. There is a strong possibility we will see a station in Downtown Monroe - A great presentation by our Mayor. Thursday night we graduated our Leadership group. A fun and futuristic night celebrating our future. Congratulations to Amy Sawyer, Community SuperStar for winning the James M. Shipp Award.
The Christmas Holiday selling season is critical to our local businesses. This Year the Chamber will be helping local businesses promote themselves over the holidays. We will be sending a separate email outlining the program - but for everyone elsewhere is the details. We will run a social media campaign celebrating local chamber members (retail and restaurants) with a link to a Shop Local Eat Local Ouachita for the Holidays social media landing page. We will be promoting all of our retail and restaurant members on that page with links to their website or facebook page. We will run a separate campaign highlighting a local retailer and local restaurant linking to their website or facebook. It cost nothing - all we ask is you share it and help us promote shop local. Here is our logo.
Tuesday night we will celebrate the Teachers of the year from Monroe City Schools, Ouachita Parish Schools, our University of Louisiana at Monroe, VCOM and Louisiana Delta Community College. Our teachers shape our future - think of your favorite teacher the impact they made on you.
Thursday, December 1st is a night you won’t want to miss - Our Annual Holiday GALA / Auction. I promise a GREAT night and a night that kicks off the holidays. All of the tables are gone but tickets are still available. If you needed any other reason, we have doubled the GreenQube Wine Wall and Mid South Extrusion will debut the Monroe Chamber Signature Holiday Drink.
Our “Inside the Chamber” magazine is sold out and we will package it for printing soon - be watching for “Made in Monroe”!
What a great time to be part of this city - it is truly a beautiful day in Monroe, Louisiana.
